Al Green - Take Me To The River

Woah! I’m a huge fan of the Talking Heads version of this song but had no idea it was an Al Green cover until last night.

Just checked Wikipedia - there have been at least three successful recordings of Take Me To The River. Al Green’s original 1974 recording was #117 on the Rolling Stones’ list of the 500 greatest songs, Syl Johnson’s version peaked at #48 on the US Hot 100, and the Talking Heads peaked at #26 on the same chart. However, the song’s co-author Teenie Hodges claims that the version that earned him the most royalties was from singing plastic fish Bigmouth Billy Bass.
