When we started doing Bleep Bloop I looked at the list of games coming out this Fall, and I immediately knew I wanted to have Reggie Watts come in to record a song in the Guitar Hero World Tour’s brand new studio mode. This week that dream became a reality, with the added bonus of Jake & Streeter. I guess I’m saying this a lot, but this is one of my favorite episodes yet.
Overall, I was pretty impressed with the game’s recording studio. It’s obviously not a replacement for ProTools or actual instruments, but it’s a great first step with lots of room to stretch out and get creative. One deleted scene had Reggie explaining how M.I.A. started out making beats on an obscure PS1 game that wasn’t even good, and we all agreed that a few years from now there will almost definitely be some studio wizard who learned the basics of multi-track recording from Guitar Hero.
Also, the actual game has Band on the Run, easily the most exciting song to ship this year in either Rock Band or Guitar Hero (though I’d argue Rock Band has the superior soundtrack overall).
A special thanks are due to the magical Caitlin Opperman, our asst. editor. We had some techincal difficulties on this one, and she did a lot of work synching up the assorted footage so it was all usable.
