I’m developing quite a backlog of things to blog. Let’s knock some of them out with bullet points.
- The common wisdom is that the new Hardly Working, Phone Fight, is one of the best yet. I tend to agree.
- There’s a new Play Value up. This one’s about Miyamoto, the guy who created everything from Mario to Zelda to the Wii itself. It’s remarkable that the guy who designed Donkey Kong and Super Mario Bros. 1 also made Mario Galaxy. That’s like if the guy who made The Great Train Robbery going on to make Terminator 2. If you learn the name of one videogame designer, make it Miyamoto.
- I had a chance to play some Grand Theft Auto 4, and it was totally awesome. It’s not a revoloution like GTA3, but they have taken everything and made it twice as big and five times prettier. Then they added 16-person online multiplayer. I don’t know the last time I saw a game so obviously worth $60.
- One last videogame annoucement - Congratulations to my old college roommate Przy, who set a world record in Tapper the other night when the Guiness Book went to Barcade.
- I made a Muxtape. Getting a muxtape domain named after someone or something seemed kind of lame, but I thought it would be a fun one to have when Muxtape takes off.
I think Muxtape should have a “hardcore mode” that forces you to plan out two sides, and if you go over the time limit for one side a song just cuts off.
- I’m nerdy about a lot of things, but nothing makes me sound quite as lame as when I start talking about how much I love Pixar. I get personally offended at statements like, “Oh I like Pixar too. Did they do Shrek?” Pixar announced their slate of movies through 2012 this week. The highlights: starting with next year’s Up, everything is going to be released in 3D. Toy Story 1 and 2 are both going to be rereleased (in 3D) leading up to 2010’s Toy Story 3. Starting in 2011, we’re going to start seeing two Pixar movies a year. There’s a Cars 2, too. At this rate Pixar will soon have mastered story telling in 4D animation.
- The Wire cast sightings: thanks to Justin for alerting me that both Clay Davis and Frank Sobotka are on New Amsterdam.
