Maxim gave the new Black Crowes album a poor review. The only problem? There weren’t any advance copies and the reviewer couldn’t have possibly listened to the CD. The magazine has since issued an apology, but is it too late? If I can’t trust Maxim’s music critiscm, how can I trust that these 69 cheap sex trips will really pay off big in bed?

Now is probably the time to take a secret project of mine public. I’ve been keeping track of movie ads that quote Maxim film critic Pete Hammond.  Just to give you a sample, he is quoted on the cover of two out of three direct-to-DVD American Pie sequels - American Pie: Beta House (“the most outrageous slice of pie yet!”) and American Pie: The Naked Mile (“Hilarious sexy fun… goes where no American Pie has gone before!”)

I’m not angry at him - being Maxim’s film critic is probably like covering science and technology for People. I just want everyone to be aware. Whenever you see an ad for a bad movie that quotes a critic, keep an eye on the reviewers. It’s almost always Pete Hammond.
