“About 60% of the lines you get have to be Tetrises, and then you have to get to level 29, and then you might be in the ballpark of getting a million points, which as of this date only three people in the world have ever done. So, it’s kind of a beautiful thing they’ve created… It’s almost like they programmed this perfect game where they knew only a few people would ever be able to do it.”

- Adam Cornelius, director of The Ecstasy of Order on this week’s Jeff Rubin Jeff Rubin Show
This episode rounds out a trilogy of Jeff Rubin Jeff Rubin Shows about new sports people are competing in (the last two were about Quidditch and Magic the Gathering). You can listen to the enhanced version (with pictures) on YouTube or iTunes, and the vanilla MP3 version at JeffRubinJeffRubinShow.com.

Brand new (!!!!) episode of Nerd Alert featuring some of my favorite nerdy places to go when you visit New York.

Really thrilled with how this came out, thanks to everyone who helped put it together.

Plus, there’s still new Jeff Rubin Jeff Rubin Show coming out tomorrow. It’s about competitive Tetris and may be the nerdiest one yet. Here’s a preview I posted on Facebook.

On this week’s Jeff Rubin Jeff Rubin Show!
Jon Finkel is arguably the greatest Magic the Gathering player of all time. He’s won countless tournaments, was one of the first three players inducted into the Magic the Gathering Hall of Fame, and was even immortalized on a card (above). He’s also been on a blackjack card counting team, played professional poker, and currently manages a hedge fund. On this week’s Jeff Rubin Jeff Rubin Show, we find out how all these things are related. We also discuss that Gizmodo incident.
You can listen to the enhanced version of The Jeff Rubin Jeff Rubin Show (with pictures) on YouTube or iTunes, and the vanilla MP3 version at JeffRubinJeffRubinShow.com.

The amazing new “Talking Heads: Chronology” has lots of rare footage of the band in it’s prime, but the highlight is this incredibly awkward interview with Dick Clark on American Bandstand. This band was there to perform their cover of Take me to the River, which was their first big hit.

The DVD just came out a week ago, and this was just uploaded to YouTube days ago, so as far as I know this all new to the Internet.

I just got my first big boy camera, and I’ve been making a point of playing with it to learn how it works. Or, at least that’s how I’m going to justify the amount of time I spent taking this picture of a Lego wizard fighting Lego Optimus Prime on a Lego pirate ship.
Also of note - I gave Optimus Prime a pirate sword.

For this week’s Jeff Rubin Jeff Rubin Show myself and Casey Johnston attended The Quidditch World Cup. Hundreds of teams from all over travelled to compete in this “muggle” version of Quidditch. We spoke to players, coaches, announcers, the commissioner, and more. It was amazing, you would have loved it.
You can listen to the enhanced version of The Jeff Rubin Jeff Rubin Show (with pictures) on YouTube or iTunes, and the boring ole’ MP3 version at JeffRubinJeffRubinShow.com.
(ps first JRJR Show I’ve recorded in the field!)

Terriers is an easy pick for this year’s “Arrested Development Award for Amazing Show Most Likely to Only Receive the Acclaim it Deserves After Being Cancelled” (last year’s winner - Party Down). Character-driven crime/detective show with both episodic mysteries and a season long arc (sorta like a less snarky, buddy cop Veronica Mars). It’s still not on DVD though this week it finally hit Netflix Instant, and at 13 episodes it makes a perfect Netflix Weekend Warrior project. If you stick it out to the end the only thing you’ll be disappointed by is that they didn’t make more.
